I will never be able to accept Bonnie/Jamie.
My heart still lies with Beremy, and I will forever hate the writers for screwing with that ship with the whole ‘cheating with the Ghost thing’. I mean, fuck you.
Totally agreeing with this. Where the hell did that relationship even come from, was there ever any indication of it before “Do Not Go Gentle”? Because I don’t remember anything about it. Plus in all honesty I think it’s pretty damn creepy, Jamie is her adoptive brother, in a sense, and was raised by the same mother. Ew, no!
Also, it just feels like playing pair-the-spares in a very racist manner. Because she’s black, she has to have a black boyfriend? And there’s this guy and she needs a date so let’s just put them together and be over with it. Again, no! I don’t really care that much about Bonnie dating Jeremy, but I don’t want her shoved into the token black female role, I really don’t. At least with Jeremy it felt like it wasn’t just about her race. She has no chemistry with Jamie.
And I’m kind of surprised at the writers of TVD for this, because otherwise the show is so much fun. The latest episode was full of the things I love about this show, not only the plot twists but also how relationships in the show aren’t just about romance. There were many occasions where two women talked about something else than men, plus there are many friendships that you don’t usually see in teenage romance TV (though actually I’m not sure you could categorize TVD as such, it’s kind of just masking itself as one but behind all that vampire glamour there’s actually fast-paced fantasy soap opera intrigue going on). I love the bromance between Damon and Rick; Damon has a lot of annoying features and messy relationships full of manipulation, but his pseudo-reluctant, vaguely bitchy friendship with Alarick is what actually makes him feel human and relatable. I also enjoy Elena’s father-daughter-like relationship with Alarick, it’s the one relationship where Elena isn’t just an emotionally clingy whiny, but a real, live girl missing a parent in her life. I could go on and on.
Anyway, I hope they give more room for Bonnie, she has so much potential and is very underused. I’d hate to think it would be because she’s black, but it doesn’t look too good. Shape up, TVD writers!
It always happens… And then I’m screwed
